As a former U.N. Secretary General Boutros Ghali told the PBS news program "The failure of Rwanda is 10 times greater than the failure of Yugoslavia. Because in Yugoslavia the international community was interested, not involved. In Rwanda nobody was interested." Throughout the course of "100 Days" 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed. Also, between 250,000 and 500,000 women were raped. In addition, 67% of the women raped were afflicted with HIV. As of 2007, 40,000 survivors were without shelter. As seen in these statistics, the Rwanda Genocide was one of the worst genocides known to man, and is still effecting people 20 years later. During this genocide four human rights were broken. The United Nations was aware of what was happening and refused to step in until it was too late. Africa was set back many years because of slavery and the Rwanda Genocide set Africa back even further.
